In these days of escalating prices and limited resources, food product manufacturers find themselves looking for ways to optimize their purchasing power and guarantee uninterrupted supplies by looking for ingredients from all sources around the globe. This article will go through steps on what to look for when searching out those resources from around the globe and especially China (the dominant supplier of ascorbic acid, sorbic acid, and other food ingredients such as phosphates, hydrocolloids, and sweeteners). The article discusses how to get started in the search for a supplier and elements to consider including: product quality, quality assurance and quality control, evaluation of safety, sanitary, and environmental issues.
