Jae-Bom Ohm

USDA-ARS ETSARC, Cereal Crops Research Unit

Dr. Ohm received his bachelor and master degrees in Crop Science from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, followed by his Ph.D. in Grain Science from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Dr. Ohm started his current position with USDA ARS in 2007 as a Research Geneticist with the Hard Spring and Durum Wheat Quality Laboratory, Cereal Crops Research Unit at the Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center, Fargo North Dakota. His research with ARS is centered on hard spring and durum wheat quality focusing on protein molecular weight distribution. He also has an adjunct appointment in the Department of Plant Sciences at the North Dakota State University where he has served on many graduate student committees. He has been an author on more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. He currently serves as a co-chair of the Oat and Barley Technical Committee of the Cereals & Grains Association.

Criteria

The Cereals & Grains Association Board of Directors established a Fellows Program in 1985 to honor association members who have made distinguished contributions to the field of cereal science and technology in research, industrial achievement, leadership, education, administration, communication, or regulatory affairs. Anyone who has been an Cereals & Grains Association member for at least ten years and made such a contribution is eligible.

Recipients of the Phil Williams Applied Research Award and the Thomas Burr Osborne Medal are also accorded Fellow status.

How to Nominate

Submit nominations using the online form found on the awards page. The nomination process is open from November-January 31.  

Completed nomination packets will include:

  • A cover letter addressed to Cereals & Grains Association headquarters describing why the nominee is worthy of consideration for the stated award
  • At least two and not more than five supporting letters
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List of publications
  • Nominations should address the activities most relevant to the award, with a clear statement of the impact the nominee has had in his/her specific area of expertise.
